I've always wanted to write a story perfectly balanced between fantasy and reality. Something that makes the supernatural seem ordinary, but the fact that it's ordinary is what makes it feel so amazing. Like My Neighbour Totoro. Just. So. Awesome.
I remember the first time I watched Spirited Away, I was about ten years old, and I was amazed. It was the best thing ever laid before my eyes in my life. And I said, "That's exactly the story I've always wanted to write."
It's the beautiful, beautiful fantastical elements in it, mixed wonderfully with little bits of Japanese culture (the bathhouse, those little candy stars, and that finger curse-defeating thing) and the whole thing with Chihiro growing up in the end.
It's too awesome.
Someday I hope I can share some of Miyazaki's genius!
